New on The Show

Mike Ryan

“Dancing All Around It” - I think he’s got a great voice, hint of Zac Brown, really contemporary but really nice, I think that’s really good” -  Marie Crichton BBC Radio Shropshire

Genre:  Red Dirt/ Texas Country
Hometown:  San Antonio, TX
Record label: Rock and Soul Records

Blurb: Mike Ryan is a singer/songwriter with a knack for pairing lyrics with music that breathe life into a song. Smooth & soulful, he has uncommon vocal ability. Surrounded by the musically inclined from a young age, Mike’s never been a stranger to notes or rhythm. Early on, Mike was greatly influenced by his grandfather Paul, who directed the Texas National Guard Band for over 20 years.

The talent Mike has been blessed with as singer/songwriter has certainly not been ignored. After releasing his first full length album in the Autumnl of 2012, NIGHT COMES FALLING, Mike grabbed the attention of Sea Gayle Music, one of the top independent publishing companies in country music, out of Nashville, Tennessee.
Mike strengthened his team again with APA Talent of Nashville coming on board to oversee tour booking in January of 2014.
Since May of 2013, Mike frequently travels to Nashville for writing sessions. Mike’s second full length album, BAD REPUTATION, showcases ten new songs, all written or co-written by him. Read More Press
Mike’s debut single "Dancing All Around It"  sent to country radio Sept 29th from the new BAD REPUTATION album moved to #3 on the Texas Music Chart on 9/22/2014.

Kenny and Amanda Smith

“That’s When You Know” – ”Female Vocalist of the Year, beautiful isn’t it, I’ll have to play a lot more from her” -  Marie Crichton BBC Radio Shropshire

Genre; Bluegrass
Record Label: Farmboy Records

Kenny and Amanda Smith’s debut release SLOWLY BUT SURELY in 2001 was meant mainly for family and friends, but bluegrass radio and fans would have none of it. Embracing the couple and their music, fans propelled that first album’s “Amy Brown” to the top of the bluegrass charts.
The Kenny and Amanda Smith Band has since recorded eight albums, enjoyed more chart success, and solidified its presence in the bluegrass community and beyond.
KASB’s latest album, CATCH ME IF I TRY (Released Nov 6, 2012 UK iTunesAmazon UK ), has enjoyed several singles on the Bluegrass Today charts – the title track reached #1 last November. It was recorded at Gat 3 Productions Charlotte, NC  featuring: Kenny Smith (Guitar & Harmony Vocal), Amanda Smith ( Lead vocal), Cory Piatt (Mandolin), Austin Ward (Bass), Special Guest (Ron Stewart Banjo) & Alan Bartram (Harmony Vocal)

As a young band, KASB won the 2003 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year award and has gone on to earn several IBMA, Grammy, and Dove award nominations. More important, they’ve gained fans worldwide and have landed some pretty impressive gigs such as opening shows for the great Loretta Lynn and the late George Jones.

Originally from Nine Mile, Indiana, Kenny is widely considered one of the most important and influential flatpicking-style guitarists of his generation. A two-time IBMA Guitarist of the Year award winner, his professional credits include six years with the popular Lonesome River Band and an exceptional solo CD, Studebaker, released on Sugar Hill Records in 1997.

Kenny is in great demand at guitar workshops and master classes, teaching at the renowned Roanoke Bluegrass Weekend series and at guitar workshops at major events such as IBMA. He has just released a two-DVD instruction set on AcuTab Publications.

Born in the small town of Davisville, West Virginia, Amanda grew up singing in church choirs and participating in talent contests at local fairs. “I always sang, my mom and dad said, even before I can remember,” she says. She started playing guitar in high school to accompany herself, and soon discovered bluegrass music through female artists such as Rhonda Vincent and Alison Krauss.

Amanda met Kenny at a Lonesome River Band concert, and the couple began dating and playing music together almost immediately. “I wouldn’t say it was love at first sight, but there was definitely something there,” she says. Their shared Christian faith, love for bluegrass and desire to perform together led them to record a debut CD, Slowly But Surely, in 2001. Recruiting several of their favorite players for the session, the album surged up the bluegrass charts on the strength of their hit song, “Amy Brown.”

They were both nominated for two awards at the 2014 IBMA Awards this year. Kenny was up for Guitar Player of the Year (won by Bryan Sutton) & Amanda, a mother to be, won Female Vocalist Award for the first time on Oct 2nd at the 25th Annual IBMA Awards Show held in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event was held at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts and hosted by Lee Ann Womack and Jerry Douglas.
